Join the Junior Giraffe Club on a fun-filled adventure! We’re going on a virtual journey to South Africa to meet a scientist who is passionate about giraffes.
In the Field and in the Lab
DR. ANDRI GROBBELAAR is a giraffe scientist from South Africa who loves studying how giraffes live, grow, and survive in the wild. She works at the University of the Free State, where she teaches students and conducts research to help protect these amazing animals.
Dr. Grobbelaar spends time both in nature and in the laboratory. In the field, she observes wild giraffes in game reserves to learn about their behaviour, health, and movements. In the lab, she studies things like hormones, digestion, and how giraffes adapt to changes in their environment. All of this helps scientists understand how to keep giraffes healthy and safe for the future.
A Vital Role
She is especially passionate about giraffe conservation and believes that young people play a very important role in protecting wildlife. Dr. Grobbelaar loves sharing exciting discoveries about giraffes — from how their long necks work, to how mothers care for their calves — and she hopes to inspire the next generation of wildlife champions.
She is very excited to meet the Junior Giraffe Club and share her giraffe adventures!
Member Spotlight: Zoe
A couple of months ago we challenged members to create a giraffe made out of items lying around the house. Junior Giraffe Club member ZOE wowed us with her colourful giraffe made of yarn and she’s going to teach us how to make one of our very own!
Fun Facts with Mariana
We love a good quiz! Junior Giraffe Club Facilitator MARIANA MARENO-FLOREZ will test our giraffe knowledge with a Kahoot. We’re sure to learn a few new things along the way!
